Green Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is coming soon, and you can break from the norm this year. Instead of dinner out, the movies or even gifts, you can think green and save your wallet and still have a wonderful gift to give mom.

Instead of spending hours in the store pondering over the perfect gift, what mom wouldn’t love flowers for her garden? This is a wonderful time of year to head for the local stores to pick out the annuals or perennials. Mom can spend some quality time in the garden and preparing it for the upcoming summer. If you have elderly parents, or mothers that can’t spend time in the garden, you can pick up a windowsill gardening kit or even put one together with all the needed items. Gardening can be done from virtually any spot if you don’t have access to a traditional garden. Maybe put herb seeds in for her favorite tea?

Try having a picnic instead of that fancy restaurant. Pack a meal and find a nice area to eat. While your plate my not be the fanciest in town, no one will argue that the quality time spent will more than make up for it! Not to mention, no reservations are needed!

Instead of heading out to the movies or shopping, save some money and take a walk. There are hundreds of country trails and nature walks. If you are unsure of the ones in your area, try doing an online search or calling your local Chamber of Commerce. Even just a nice place to sit in the park and feed the ducks for older parents is quiet and serene.

I’m sure any mother will agree, the best presents do not come tied up with a bow. Save some money, help the planet and please mom this Mother’s Day!
