teen celebrating holidays

5 New Year’s Resolutions for High School Students – Photo by klimkin

One can never be truly satisfied with oneself. Regardless of how scary this sounds, this trait is what drives us to constantly become better. We always want more and do our best to become better people.

What’s more, the best time for making these decisions is right about now. Every year, we make a list of New Year’s resolutions and look forward to putting them in action. The new year is a time for new beginnings and new decisions.

Luckily, this is also the time when we are most motivated for actually making these changes. The magic of the holidays gets to us every time and we feel like we can do anything. In that respect, here are some suggestions for filling up that list this year for high school students to become the best possible versions of themselves.

Stop procrastinating

We all do it and we all hate it, but still keep doing it. There’s nothing sweeter than putting off studying or writing papers and, at the same time, nothing more bitter than having to do all the work the night before the deadline.

It’s high time to kick this nasty habit. Commit to doing your work as soon as you get the assignment once, and after you experience the feeling of freedom and ease that follows, you’ll stop procrastinating once and for all.

Don’t push it

When we decide to change ourselves, we tend to exaggerate. Be aware of the fact that change doesn’t come easy. It also shouldn’t be too radical, otherwise it won’t work.

It’s better to try and focus on a few things instead of wanting to do it all and end up not doing anything well. Stay focused and leave some improvements for next year.

Don’t push it –

Invest in your future

Apart from improving the person you are now, you also need to think about the future you. Figuring out what you want to do with your life after high school is quite important. Once you choose which college to go to, you need to start your preparations. This will be the biggest test you’ve had in your life so far.

Needless to say, it needs to be taken seriously. That is why most students start taking lessons and courses that will be useful for their entrance exams. For instance, if medicine is your choice, you need to find a competent UMAT tutor in order to adequately prepare for college.

Do something new

Take up a sport, an instrument or a new language. Do something to escape dull mundanity. You need to break the monotony of the life you’ve been living.

Once you discover some new interests, you’ll be able to do other things more efficiently, as well. Your motivation and general enthusiasm will increase which will result in the feeling of happiness.

Banish self-doubt

Your biggest enemy is a lack of self-confidence. Don’t take this the wrong way, being too confident is almost as equally harmful. However, you need to find a balance and a way to be true to yourself. Be aware of your faults, but also know your strengths.

Self-sabotage is strictly forbidden. That is why you mustn’t tell yourself you are unable to learn something or that you are incompetent. If you try hard, you can do anything.

All in all, these are some of the ways to improve your life as a high school student. Of course, don’t neglect everything your life was made up of until now. Simply try to eliminate the bad things and implement some new good habits. That will make you feel better and more in control of your life and it will guarantee success.
