Back to School Working At Home
Back to School, what this means for YOU!
by Jamie Edson Opielski
Summer break is winding down. School registration is finally here!
Now it’s time to buy school supplies, new clothes, backpacks and more. Are you ready? I mean, you will be losing those precious sleep in- laid back mornings where you can actually drink a cup or two of coffee with out being disturbed. So, are you really ready for it? Heck I am!
Ready for the early hustle and bustle mornings where you barely get in a few sips of coffee in between getting the kids up, dressed, fed, teeth brushed, hair combed, lunches made, back packs packed with everything else they need and out the door.
What does this mean for me, the work from home mom? Easier mornings. By that I mean more quiet, concentration time to get done what I need to get done. I can meet deadlines with ease, and work for at least four or five hours straight without having to break up a fight, wipe a nose, or console hurt feelings. Not to mention other things.
The kids will be getting back into their schedules/normal routines of coming home, snacks, doing homework, chores, dinner, playtime, showers/baths and early to bed- and mom will be getting back into her normal everyday routine as well. Ahhhhh and I can hardly wait!
This new schedule will demand a lot of discipline on my part, though. I’ll have to fight off the cravings of wanting to leave the house and my work and go goof off, hang out at my parent’s house or even go shopping! In this situation, running a business from home can be tricky!
Here is where you as a work from home parent will need to schedule at least part of a morning, once a week, to go get those run away cravings out of your system. Otherwise, you’ll find yourself playing hooky from your work, which is something I did way too much of before summer break started. The odd thing is so far during summer break, I have found myself working well over what I had been.
So come mid- August, things will be back to normal. I’ll have a better handle on my kids, the house, and hopefully my work. It is not too far away- so we will see!
