Creating a Table Out of a Door
By Sonya Wiess – Interior Design –
Did you know that old doors can easily be turned into numerous pieces of furniture even if you’re not a professional woodworker?
You might have some old doors lying around from a remodeling project you completed on your home or you might have found an old door you liked at a resale shop. Old doors can be hung from the ceiling, draped with fabric and turned into top frames for canopy beds, they can also be made into dining room tables and even coffee tables.
Today, we are going to talk about making a coffee table. The best part about creating a table from a door is that you can use a solid wood door or you can use a glass door. The glass doors divided into six individual squares make beautiful tables.
For this project, you will need a good sander to smooth the rough edges and nicks from the wood. You’ll need a drill to make holes for attaching the table legs, wood screws, a good primer and stain or paint for the wood. Start by prepping the door and removing any screws or nails that were in the wood.
Then using fine grained sandpaper, go over the door, both front and back as well as around the edges. Remove any residual material from the sanding with a clean, dry cloth. Prime the door for paint, paint and once it dries, attach legs to the door frame. You can find coffee table legs through online shops or through a local resale store.
