When Things Don't Go Our Way
From the time we are born, our lives are being pre-determined for us by our parents, guardians, society and the world at large. We are told who we should be, what we should act like and what our future should hold, starting at a very young age. Girls wear pink and boys wear blue. She's so pretty, she should be in pictures. Watch him kick the ball; he's going to be a star athlete. The course for our lives is constantly nagging at us even when we are too young to understand it. We are labeled as a certain type of person from the time we are born. This is hard to shake.
There were so many plans and ideas that I had mapped out for my life while growing into adulthood. I can't say that many of them have come to fruition. What we think we want, or what others tell us we think we want, while unseen worlds are still swirling about in our dreams, may not be what is actually best for us, or what we are naturally good at.
It is hard to separate fantasy and reality. It is even harder to separate what you actually want in your life, from the ideas that have been forced upon you. What career you have been told you would be good at verses what you actually really enjoy doing. Who you thought your ideal mate would be compared to the person who is actually right for you. These conclusions can be very tricky to realize and become real with in your own life. It is so difficult to let go of predisposed ideas and notions and let yourself be guided by what really feels right for you. To let yourself be guided by your destiny perhaps?
I'm trying to think if I really have any advice on how to do this? What is it inside of a person that really clicks, stops the clock, ends the cycle of being molded and made into a person that is not truly them? What is the deciding factor that finally makes you put your foot down and say, "This is not me, this is not really me!" Sometimes it is not a conscious decision and the only factor is an unexpected event, or several for that matter.
Life altering moments can make a person finally see inside themselves and regain the confidence that was lost throughout their lives to be real again, to be true to who they are deep down in their being. Sometimes it is a divine intervention, or a mistake, a death, an accident..a loss. Only then can some people finally realize that life is too short to be wasted on things, careers and people that don't matter to them. Only then can you find true and lasting happiness. Letting go of the oppressive nature, the ideas of others, and your own misguided notions could be the best thing that ever happened to you.
Having a life that you never ever imagined, could be the best life that you ever had.
